Welcome to one of our latest recruits, Warren Wignall! Warren has worked in Broadband support for a large UK ISP for some time now, and has a lot to offer for the future of http://talkbroadband.com!
| So your connected to the internet. You can browse sites and email fine. You go out and buy yourself an Xbox 360 because you want to wipe the floor with your friend from Ohio on Pro Evolution Soccer 6. You seem to connect to Xbox Live but you cant chat with anybody and some games dont allow you to connect. This is because your router or firewall is stopping you. Now before you call your ISP screaming your head off take a look at your hardware. If you got a bog standard modem from your ISP, it may be time to upgrade to a router. If you already have a router, then it shouldn't be that hard to get up and running smoothly. Xbox.com does state you may need an Xbox Live compatible router, but most routers can be setup fine with the service. Ports you should be forwarding are 88 and 3074. If you need help in setting up your specifci modem or router then go to http://www.portforward.com for guides on how to do this. Hope this helps anyone out there. |
